HTML/HTM file icon gone
This problem is really just cosmetic but it's bugging me like crazy. HTML files and HTM files etc are associated with IE and open in IE when opened but they have no icon, they just have the default non-asscoiated icon.I've tried going into explorer anf tools, folder options, finding the file type, clicking advanced and change icon but it just isn't working.
I'm running windows XP home edition, i know its not really important but i do a lot of programming and development including web design so its really getting to me so much i'm thinking of formatting and starting again to fix it but i don't want to do that due to the fact i'm all fully up to date with windows updates, anti-virus etc which took an age to download on a 56k. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks, Richy |

I don't want to sound like a smarta$$, but did you try restarting Windows? Try cleaning out your registry too, with
jv16 PowerTools. May even want to do a defrag. Sometimes just trying to change the file type's icon all over again can do the trick. |

Maybe temporarily associate that filetype with a different program, then switch it back, and then try changing the icon again. Change it twice to make sure and then restart windows and see if it worked.
Another thing I was wondering is the location of the icon you are trying to change it to. is it in the IE folder? Just wondering. Last edited by DilLy; 09-06-2002 at 06:19 AM. |

I've tried changing the file asscociation to dreamweaver and the icon to dreamweavers icon, the association changed but not the icon. It still stayed as a non-associated icon. The icon i'm trying to make it is the default html document icon which can be found in the iexplore.exe in the program folder or in the url.dll in the system folder.
thanks, Richy |

Download TweakUI for XP at the Microsoft site. The last option in the list is to "repair icons".
If you don't already have it, I suggest it. It has a lot of handy tweaks in it. I wouldn't usually try to proceed too far after a new Windows installation without it anymore. You will be glad you downloaded it.
