How do you install Windows2000?
I've had enough of XP and it crashing on me.
I'd like to try Windows2000. How exactly do you perform a clean installation though? The Windows2000 CD does not boot (no boot files on it) and the setup program cannot be run from DOS. Any help would be appreciated - I want to start this installation soon.

Hi UFOResearcher,
The Win2K CD does boot, just set the CD-ROM drive as first in the boot sequence in the BIOS and restart with the CD in the drive. |

Dr, yeah I done that, it just ignores the Windows2000 CD-ROM.
No probs with installingXP, setting the CD-ROM to first boot device and the XP CD boots no problem. A quick glance at the Windows2000 CD reveals no boot files. ENGLISH -Folder- CDROM_IA.5 -File- CDROM_IP.5 -File- CDROM_IS.5 -File- CDROM_IN.5 -File- |

That's odd, this is a legal copy correct?
You can downloaded the needed files to create a Win2K bootdisk from here. http://www.geocities.com/windows2472000/index.html |

Before you run 2k, wich will run about the same as xp, install xp sans acpi. That gives relief from instability in certain via ****sets.
Oops chipsets I mean. To do this, disable acpi/apic in bios and install xp, and when xp starts to install, and it asks for third party drivers/f6, hit f5 a few times. Then when it pops up a menu, scroll up and select standard pc. Also, do not install any via 4n1s, xp and 2k have a very stable version of the 4n1s natively. That is unless you want to experiment. Cheers M8
