Question Changing the Layout in Start/Programs Menu

I have Win98se. I have always wondered how to get all my progams to fit in the Start/Programs menu, instead of having to scroll down to view more. I remember in Windows 95, it was the way I liked it. When one column got too large for the screen, it would display another column next to it. Am I missing something in all the setup menus that will allow me to change it back to the way I want it (no scroll)? I just find that scroll arrow too slow and unresponsive.

Right click your taskbar and select properties. Click the advanced tab, then uncheck scroll programs.

I don't remember if that is exactly how it is on Win98, but it's how you do it on WinME.

Dr. Zaius, I said I have Windows 98se, your tweak is listed for Me/2000/XP. I am not about to play with my registry if 98 is not listed.

Nevermind. I tried it anyway with 98, and it worked. Thanks for the link.

Hal, your suggestion did not work. Strangely enough, clicking the advanced tab in the taskbar properties just brings up windows explorer displaying the startup programs.

The easy way to do it in Win98SE. (Requires a Registry Edit)

Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
Value Name: StartMenuScrollPrograms
Value Data: No

If the value name is not there, add it.
