Probably Easily Fixed

Just downloaded a 5meg .avi file and when i load it up in media player it gives an error saying 'Unable to download appropriate decompressor' so i clicked on ok and it played but only the audio was working, no video at all.

So i then tried it on my other installed media programs such as Quick Time, Real One and Winamp and they all give the same errror.

My last attempt on gettign this to work was to download the new DivX bundle pacakge but still no luck.

Please help! :-)

Hi RCartledge,

What version of Windows Media are you using? I used to get problems like this and updating to 7.1 would fix it. Your problem probably isn't in your version of Windows Media but it wouldn't hurt to head over to Windows Update and get the updated version.

You probably need an updated codec, I'm not sure if any are availible besides DivX

I have now got this problem fixed. I did after ready some common errors on the media player web site, and it said that i would have to update my internet explorer version as that control most of the multimedia codecs and stuff.

Anways, it works pefectly now
