Ok my sister is getting a Dell with XP pro,she wants her backup stuff from her HD from the 98SE machine copied to XP machine when she gets it. Can I hook her old drive up a a slave & copy the files ? I don't have alot of XP experiance so I thought I'd ask first.
Thanks ! Don |

I don't think it would be a problem, of course I have never done it myself, but XP will be able to read the data on the FAT32 drive.

I figured it shouldn't have any problem since it will be a fresh machine. Thanks

Yes you can put the hard drive from the Win98SE machine into the XP machine. I have done this, but you do need to check the jumper settings for the master/slave. Many of the large OEMs set their dries to CS (cable select) and the drie on the center connector is the master.

Ok thanks because from what I understand (not seeing the machine yet) it has a DVD & CDR & D drives so I figured I would just slave her old drive in there & copy since there is going to be enough cables LOL.
Thx Don |

Center connector is the slave - end connector is master.
