Holy crap! that's a lot of fixes. Actually I never had any problems with XP, but I installed SP1 anyway. It was a completely trouble free installation, too.

Will the XP CDs include the SP1 or will I be forced to download it?

My current version of XP expires within 3 months, so I'll be buying XPH in december or november.

Nuc,

Yes, Microsoft will start shipping WindowsXP with the SP1, but you should look on the box and make sure it has it. WindowsXPGold is coming out some time soon. Microsoft was busy figuring out how to package each as to not confuse the consumer into thinking there are actually new versions of Windows available.

But anyway, there will be a "gold" version and an SP1 version as well. Not sure what the gold version is all about yet.

The download for the 32bit version of SP1 (what you will want) is 133 megabytes. I noticed Microsofts servers are going rather slow, probably due to a lot of folks trying to download the thing. It is, in fact, thier highest selling version of Windows to date, so I am not surprised. The download speed was respectable but no where near what I could have gotten.

here is the url to download SP1:
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...sp1_en_x86.exe

OEM Gold? I doubt they will call it that. I am hoping there will be a discount on the original version. But it's too early to tell if that will happen. I have heard there are instructions for installing SP1 at the same time you install XP but I haven't seen them yet.
Nuc - what version do you have that expires?

now this realy makes me angry.
one of the fixes is the usb not detecting hardware all the time.
I just ran into the problem with the microsoft sidewinder presision pro 2 joystick, I had a problem with 4 differant people who was useing them on a xp system. never did find out what the problem with them was. now ms admits it was xp all along.

that causeed me a lot of headaches.

now the problem is fixed and I have to install sp1 into 4 more systems, what a bummer. $$$$

I'm using RC1. It only runs for six months since it's an evaluation version.
