OK, I boofed it. What do I do now?
I have a neat white area on the left of my dt, that has things like folder tasks, other places, and details, all in line, with drop down menus to each. It has taken away my ie icon, and hidden other things as well. What have I done and how do I make it go away?
Please??

I don't completely understand your question. What is dt? I think you are referring to the other places pane in explorer but I'm not sure.

It is a white bar that covers the left quarter of the desktop(dt) and I dinna member how I got it there. Was messin with backgrounds and such and there it went, can't find my way back...It has the above mentioned things added to it, and has eaten my icons....
What it is making me think is I must nuke and pave... format and reinstall. Grrrrrrrr |

It sounds as though you have have added a toolbar to your desktop. Right click on the tasbar and see what toolbars you have running.

Sounds like the common tasks area of the XP style explorer windows made it to your "dt" somehow.
Strange. There isn't a toolbar like that to be selected from in XP, I wonder if you are using Object Desktop program or something??? |

i think he's talking about viewing stuff "as webpage" like in windows 98 and 2k. how it gives the info and preview and stuff on the left hand frame of a folder. i hope this helps someone else come up with a solution.

As for the "eating" of your icons, find wherever XP hides "use personalized menus" and turn it off. In 2k it is in the "taskbar and start menu" properties.

Is this not a case of right clicking a blank area of the taskbar, selecting the Start Menu tab and putting a dot in the circle for Classic Start Menu or have I misunderstood the question.
