scandisk not working
I have been having problems recently with my computer, such as hangups on shutdown. So, I went through and fdisked and formatted the hard drives to get a clean install. Had to do this twice, but finally took. I reloaded all the latest from microsoft, followed by the new drivers. Now it will not run scandisk when selected. It just locks up and I have to manually shut the computer down. It will run scandisc on it's own for improper shutdown, however. Defrag works fine.
Any ideas? |

Hi hoemee,
Seems you're having hardware problems of some sort. Since you're using IBM hard drives, I would download the hard drive diagnostic utilities and test your drives out. You might also want to replace the rounded IDE cables with regular ribbon cables...I understand you can get data corruption with rounded cables. Problem could be related to RAM. I'm not sure if DocMemory will test RAMBUS but you could try. Cricket

Thanks for the replies. I cannot get into MSDOS mode to run scandisc that way. I suspected a hardware problem as well. I have two 40 gig hdd running in the raid mirror config. Since I built this machine, the second(hidden) hard drive runs at ultra dma 2 mode, while the primary one runs at udma 5 mode. I downloaded the utility from IBM and verified they were both set to UDMA 5 mode. I will try the download from IBM to test the drives and go from there. I check docmemory tester as well.
I'll keep you posted. hoemee |

Just ran the docmemory tests - both the quick and burn in. All tests passed.

Well, I tried to run windows setup and it just locked up - had to format and reload. Scandick is working fine now and I am reloading all drivers. We'll see how it goes. If I have any more problems I'll post them.
thanks, hoemee |

This is the only intermittent problem I am having now...after I turn on my computer and let it boot I select the explorer icon on my task bar in the lower left hand corner. This will prompt my dial up connection window to display. Then my computer shuts down and reboots, running scandisk - with no errors found.

Do it. Apply a thin and even film, reseat and try it.
