xp install blue screen stop: error
Hello, i'm running a soyo dragon k333 platinum edition with 512 ram of memory, 60 gig WD hard drive, toshiba 16x DVD primary drive, plexwriter 40/12/40 slave, with amd athlon 2100+xp processor, sound blaster pci 512, gforce 4 ti4200 64 mb of ddr ram, in the bios, i just set up the optimized settings, and then set the dvd to the first boot. I boot from the windows xp home cd, and then try to install the cd on the unpartitioned space. i format the 60 gig hard drive, then when it starts to install the os, it gives me a blue screen
CDFS_FILE_SYSTEM error: stop: 0x00000027 (0x000401F4, 0xF80D0158, 0xF80CFE58, 0xF83D2057) ***atapi.sys -Address F83D2057 base at F83CB000, Date STamp 3b7d83e5 I think it's some type of cd system file error, but the ide cables are connected, and power supply is in also. everything's new. I also tried installing win. xp professional , but got the same error. I tried disconnecting cd-rw, and installing with only the dvd, that still didn't work. Please HELP!!! joseph |

Hi cameroth,
Make sure the jumpers on the DVD and CD-RW are set correctly for the type of IDE cable you're using. If you're using a 40 wire ATA33 IDE cable, use the master/slave jumper settings. Drive position on the cable doesn't matter. If you're using a 80 wire UltraATA IDE cable, set the drive jumper to CS (cable select) and connect the blue connector to the motherboard, black connector to the drive you want as master and the grey connector to the drive you want as slave. You might want to just have the CD-RW installed for now to do the Windows install with. Be sure to partition the drive before you format it. Set the BIOS to default settings for now and then switch to Optimized after the OS is installed. Also, take a look at this thread. Cricket

Thanks for your help so far,
I had the cd rw and dvd jupers set to master, and slave before, with the ide cables connected tot he right ones. I tried setting the jumpers both to cable select, but that didn't work either. still the same error. I also tried switching ide cables on the motherboard. i tried to plug the mb side of the hard drive's ide cable to the blue mb connector, and the mb side of the cd's ide cable to the white one. I know its not the cds themselves because i tried to install xp professional also, but it still didn't work. I'm not sure if the cables are 40 wire or 80 wire, (how do you tell the difference?) but i think that they're 80 wire. I also tried loading off of only the dvd drive with the cdrw unplugged, but that didn't work either. i set the bios settings to load safe settings, and that didn't work. What happens after i press a key to boot from the cd is that the windows install screen comes up. i tell it to install the os on the unpartitioned space (is that right?) and then after about 35 min. of formating the hd, it starts to install and then i get the stop error. Any more suggestions would be a big help. Thanks a lot. Joseph |

Hi cameroth,
How many sticks of RAM is in your system? Try the install with only 1 stick for now. The easiest way to tell if the IDE cable is a 80 wire UltraATA cable is by the texture of the cable itself. A 40 wire cable has very distinct, coarse ridges running along it's length. A 80 wire cable has very fine ridges running along it's length, plus the connector are 3 different colors (blue, black and grey). With UltraATA IDE cables you use the CS (cable select) jumper setting. Try the install from the CD-RW with the DVD unplugged. Cricket

Do you have the IDE cable from the CD going to IDE 2 on the Motherboard? If not then make sure you do.

It's finally working. Using your combined advice, i turned off the optimized settings in the bios, unplugged one of the cd drives, and set the remaining drive to cable select. This seemed to work. Thanks for all of your help.
