98 installation problem

With all the Xs I’ve installed win98 I've never come across this problem. Anyway here goes. I have installed all the 98 files on to a freshly formatted WD drive. When it calls for PC restart, 98 startup and then I am kicked back to the A> prompt and asked to do the following:

Type in the name of the of the command interpreter (e.g.; C:\windows\command.com)

When I try this it restates the same message. I have tried to reinstall only to have the same problem. Can someone tell me what this means and how to fix it.

Thanks Gman

Not quite sure how your going about it, but thefirst thing that pops out to me is that it sounds like it's booting from the floppy and at the point you seem to be at, you want to take the floppy out and it will do it's first boot from HD. Other than that only other thing is did you actually run the setup program or just copy the win98 files over to new HD??

Makes me wonder how it would keep putting you back to A:> without a floppy disk in. Think I would probably start over from FDISK, reformat and then set BIOS to boot from CD and go with setup from there!

Boot to the floppy, and at the A:\ prompt, type" sys c:
Try a normal boot after that.

Make sure that your bios doesn't have boot sector virus or write protection enabled.
