A newbie to Win2K - How do you install?

I know this is a simple question but things don't seem to be working right. I'm trying to install Win2K on a new machine and of course the hard drive will need to be formatted. My Win2K packet contains 2 disks - the Windows 2000 professional CD and a Step by Step interactive cd. The interactive CD seems like it needs an OS already installed to run. The other CD doesn't seem to do anything (when having BIOS check CD drive first on boot up) although I can read the files on it with the "dir" command (booting with a 98 start up disk).

What I want to know is what is the normal way to install Win2K fresh? M$ did not give any instructions on how to do this and since it ain't working for me how do I know if I'm doing it right or not (i.e. is something wrong with my CD drive)!

Usually, if the CD or the CDROM drive isnt defective, you should be able to boot using the Windows 2000 CD; if you cant boot, a good idea might be to call M$ and get yourself a new one.

As an alternative, if you think the CDROM is flaky in getting CDs to boot, then you could download bootdisks for floppies (4) from http://www.geocities.com/windows2472000/index.html and then boot using floppy 1.

Regarding partitioning, that will be during setup of Win2k. You cant miss it.

I tried a different CD drive and now I got it to work. It did not give me much time to hit ENTER in order to continue with booting on the CD so that may have been my problem.

Now I've got a different problem as Win is having problems loading on to the hard drive but that may be a hard drive problem. I've got that problem going in another thread. Thanks for your help.
