Cool Backing up mail

I've ordered Partition Magic to repartition my XP partition size. Having never used it before, I'm backing things up for an new install in case things go south.

How do you back up Outlook Express mail and address to CD. I would like the capability to restore mail and address'es in case I have to reinstall.
Chas

Hi Confused,

For the mail, simply copy your Outlook mail directory, with all sub-directories, to your CD-RW using DirectCD or InCD.

For the address, open OE and Export you address book to a file, then also copy this file your CD-RW.

Send a message via Yahoo to BFD Deadeye
You could also open Outlook in a window, and open Windows explorer in a window. Then, in Outlook, open your inbox, select all, and drag it to your CDRW in explorer. The same can be done with your addresses.

Or just use the file and settings transfer wizard.

Cool

Thanks for the replys, but I need a little handholding here. I'm not doing something right with either method offered. What are exact steps to take?
Thanks
Chas

Confused, this is what I'd do:

Open OE go to TOOLS > OPTIONS > Click on the Maintenance Tab > Click the STORE FOLDER button.
You should see the current store folder of OE mail for your profile. Open up Windows Explorer and navigate to that folder.
Then copy that folder to your backup media.

For Address book:
Go to FILE > EXPORT > Address book ... and save it as a WAB.

To note is that; if you have multiple users who use your computer, then you'd need to do the above steps for each user.

Cool

C:\Documents and Settings\Rick\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{22EC0CF3-81F7-4841-81FA-78134B37A30D}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

C:\Documents and Settings\Rick\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book

this is where my outlook express data is located in Win XP

create a folder called Outlook Express Backup
subfolders:1) address book
2)outlook express

copy all data into these folders and burn to cdrw
to restore data in Outlook Express
File>import>address book...navigate to backup *.wab address book file located in address book and choose it
file>import>messages>outlook express 6>next>import mail from store directory>browse>navigate to outlook express backup folder>outlook express>click ok
this will import all of your *.dbx outlook express folders
cheers, ~pawprint~

Thanks Statica, pawprint I think I've got it backed up. Will probably put together a PC from parts I have, load up XP and see if I can get it to restore.
Thanks again
Chas
