somewhere you have a conflict. It could be something as simple as having onboard sound enabled or an IRQ conflict. You might try moving the sound card to another slot.
Drivers can cause problems such as this and I have seen USB speakers stutter when the hard drive is accessed. The driver problems are usually easy to slolve. I haven't seen anybody fix USB sound problems. |

k changed the pci slot a few times... but didnt help too much =( i also tried the newest driver for soundblaster live value. its less choppy with the windows one.
it seems like when the HD is loading it slurrs a bit in sound. Device manager says there aint no conflicts. i get a slurring audio and video when i watch mpg files too i have no clue whats causing this... as i ran a defrag last night too. only thing i can thinki of is the install was bad, and maybe another reinstall will fix it? any suggestions? tazz |

It could be because XP finds your system resources less than it needs. Tried increasing the process priority of your multimedia application?
NB: changing process priorities MAY have adverse effects on your computer (albeit temporary), please proceed at your own risk. |

Also as you stated before run scan and defrag first and see if it helps.
