Windows NT workstation lockup
Guys,
I'm having issues w/ Windows NT 4.0. At times one of my pc's task bar will lock up when I click on the start menu. I am not getting any clue from my log files as to what the problem can be. To be more specific the only functions that stop working are on the task bar. Other functions on the pc work. What service would I need to investigate to see why this happens? Thanks, vista7 |

Did you reboot? lol j/k
Most likely you have some software or a driver that is not compatible with NT. What Service Pack are you using? I would think back to when the computer operated properly and what has been changed since. |

Service pack
I'm running service pack 6; typically I will reinstall if I see this situation. One other variable is that this has occured on some imaged boxes w/ norton ghost. Most I am running all compaq pc's with certified drivers; video & sound are the only extra drivers I have installed. Software is mainly office 2k(which could be the suspect)IE, netscape, just to name the main ones.
My main question at this point is how you pinpoint what freakn process or driver is causing this problem. Event viewer does not seem to show you loose threads in software applications. Only other thing to do is stop each service individually to isolate. |
