Onboard LAN

Please help,

I have a WIn2k Pro machine on an Intel 440LX mobo with onboard NIC. The NIC seems to be fried, as the system shows that the cable is unplugged whenever it is connected to that port. I have now installed a 10/100 PCI NIC. But the system refuses to network off it, even though I have disabled the onboard NIC from the Device manager, and even assigned a completely new IP. There is no option to disable the onboard NIC from the BIOS (Award).
What do I do?

The 440LX boards that I've seen have the Onboard LAN settings in the Periferal Config menu of the Advanced Menu.
Is the driver correct for the onboard NIC?

When you say that your added NIC isnt networked; is it the same issue of an unplugged NIC being reported?

Sounds like Windows is still trying to use the old nic, or the old drivers for the new nic. There's got to be a way to disable it, then remove it from Windows device manager, and double check the install of the new one. Your connection (in network properties) may still be trying to use the old stuff.
