Are you using a pirated copy or is it legit? Priated copies will be nothing but grief with the service pack, and this is intentional. Not to mention, support for pirated software won't be obtained here.

I read -- in an XP newsgroup -- that you can purchase Windows XP (pro) and it will install over the pirated corporate copy and it will preserve all settings. Basically, it will update the code key during the installation process. After that the SP1 installation will go smoothly.
However, all previous XP updates -- which are included in SP1 -- are re-installed. |

It is possible to do a whole lot of things, however it isnt possible to entertain discussions about changing keys as that would be illegal. So I must ask you folks to kindly take a moment, go through the FAQ if you havent already done so .. and see what might be permitted here, and proceed accordingly.

Is it wrong to tell someone that they can correct the err of their ways ... see the light ... become a whole person again ... if they just BUY the damn thing. Pop in the installation disk and it will update to your new, legal vesion of XP Pro with a valid user key.
I just wanted to let them know they don't have to start from scratch and lose whatever structure they already have in place. |

jharris: I don't believe Statica's comment was directed at you, what you propose is totally legal, just buy the software like you should have done in the first place. Legal solutions to problems are always welcome on this board.

Yeah ... sorry about that. Too long of a day, too many problems, and too few answers.
My apologies. |
