Installing Norton 2002 to XP

My problem with the virus installation is: While trying to install Norton Systemworks 2002, I get an error message, " Error: 1606. Could not access network location installing Norton Systemworks 2002. " I went to support and got into 'the registry editor " and checked what they said to look for and everything was okay. I am still unable to install the antivirus. I also went to PC-cillin's website and attempted to install their antivirus and got error message 1606 again. Norton is not any help. I tried to call them but the only number to use is a number that charges you $29.00 for the tech support. Any help appreciated.
Thanks.

Are you installing the AV from a limited user account?

Also make sure that you have no other av installed on your comp.If so you will have to uninstall it before installing av.

If your trying to install over a network... Copy the files to a folder and save it to your hard drive and install it from there... Norton Antivirus wont let your install it over a network... Well atleast the version that i have....

I have three computers on a network, all with Norton antivirus. I unplugged the network hub before I installed it. When I use the network, I make sure each computer has booted completely before I plug the network hub in.
You do not need system works with XP. just run the windoctor from the disc. Use the XP scandisc and de-fragger they are ok.

You may want to read article Q315352 at the Microsoft support site.

I started this thread for a friend who can't get his NSW 2002 to go into xp. Got error 1606. He has no other antivirus installed, he is not on a LAN and the software came from a retail store. Where can I go to get the error number explained? Is it at the microsoft site? I will also look at the article larry suggested.

www.symantec.com for the antivirus software.
The article number posted is a Microsoft Knowledge Base number. Go to Microsoft.com and plug that number in the search for articles.
