After it toke 51min to install sp1, It takes about 5-10 more sec to show the desktop on boot up. For being a Pentium 2.2 this should no be. Iv not added any start up programs and Im not going to delet programs from my task bar. Is there any thing els I can do besides defrag?

SP1 should be considered mandatory by XP users that are connected to the Internet. As for taking longer to boot up I don't know. My computers don't seem to be but I don't time them. About all you can do is see what is loading and not load what you don't need. I don't know if boot vis is supported by SP1 but you could try that.

I have a typical XP Home installation with a P4 1.8GB processor and installed SP1 with no problems or resulting slowdowns. As far as I can tell, there is nothing in SP1 that should slow down your boot up time. In fact, many have reported on these boards that their computers seem "peppy" after the install. I can't really tell the difference, although I know I have a more secure product than I did before.

It's a good thing but with three hundred changes some people are bound to have a few problems.

If you are having those kinds of problems with SP1 and aren't willing to figure out what the confict is you are probably better off doing whatever happens to work for you.
