SP1 should be considered mandatory by XP users that are connected to the Internet. As for taking longer to boot up I don't know. My computers don't seem to be but I don't time them. About all you can do is see what is loading and not load what you don't need. I don't know if boot vis is supported by SP1 but you could try that.

Ok, so what exactly is the "absolute crap" part of SP1. Can you be specific, or is this just babble. If you can show a specific file that is "crap" I may want to delete it.

I have a typical XP Home installation with a P4 1.8GB processor and installed SP1 with no problems or resulting slowdowns. As far as I can tell, there is nothing in SP1 that should slow down your boot up time. In fact, many have reported on these boards that their computers seem "peppy" after the install. I can't really tell the difference, although I know I have a more secure product than I did before.

It's a good thing but with three hundred changes some people are bound to have a few problems.

i have XP professional, since i have installed SP1 i have had frequent restarts, lockups, errors, problems than i have ever had in my life. I uninstalled sp1 and everything runs flawlessly again. and yes i have a "legal" version of XP not a pirated....

If you are having those kinds of problems with SP1 and aren't willing to figure out what the confict is you are probably better off doing whatever happens to work for you.
