Welcome to PC Mech!

What do you remember doing before the crashes started happening? If you added hardware, there could be a resource conflict. What do you have installed in your PCI slots? What are your IRQ's?

Please be more detailed as to giving your hardware specs. The more you tell us the better someone here will be able to help you out.

Good Luck!

Hi charlton2k,

Have you scanned for viruses, spyware and trojans?

What about cleaning out the Windows Temp folder?

What OS are you using? How long has that install been on the computer? Is a clean re-install an option?

Have you checked for IRQ conflicts?

What PCI slot is that NIC (ethernet card) installed in?

Did you also try disabling all background programs when trying to open apps and accessing webpages? Like Antivirus, Norton Utilities etc..

You'll have to open up the case and take a look. Let us know which PCI slot the NIC is installed in. You don't want it in PCI slot 1 (the one next to the AGP slot) because it shares resources with the AGP slot.

Webopedia: IRQ. Depending on which operating system you're using, having IRQ sharing or conflicts can cause problems with your system.

While you have your case open, check to see if the CPU heatsink is clogged with dust. If it is, clean it out. If the interior is really dusty, get a can of compressed air and blow out the dust. Take the front face plate off the computer and check to see if the fan intake opening is clogged with dust too. Clean it off good if it is. And check the power supply vents and clean them off if dusty.
