Hi, and Welcome to the MECH!
Sounds like a needed file has been moved, deleted or never loaded properly. Have you tried finding the file? (Start-Find-Files-Filename) if its missing, do you have the software to reload the program? Still not working? Please post more detailed specs of your hardware and software. Good Luck! |

that didnt work, both files highlighted in the error are in the system folder under windows where they should be and i reinstalled the game with no background programs running and same error.
my computer: AMD Athlon XP 1800+ 256 MB ram NVIDIA GeForce2 MX 400 There is plenty of hard disk room. The computer is operating using Windows 98 and i have the same error with another game. The two games are Grand Theft Auto 3 and AFL Live 2003. Also when i get the original error, i get a seperate error which says: C:\Program Files\AFL Live 2003\AFL2003.exe A device attached to the system is not functioning. |

maybe the files are being corrupted on install...
try running system file checker (start/run/sfc) and extract the files from the installation disc to the folder where they belong. you'll have to do this one file at a time.... |

Hi all
Here's a link to a Grand Theft Auto III troubleshooting webpage. http://www.gta3.com/?zone=troubleshooting The first suspect is Direct X. Your Nvidia drivers (& their settings), your sound card drivers, as well as your version of Direct X all need to be = 8.1 Try reinstalling DX 8.1b even if you already have, then reinstalling your sound and video drivers, then reinstalling the game(s). Also on your 1st run of the game after reinstalling, try playing with modest settings, rather than going all out. . . . Gary [p.s. ...looked around a little, and those 2 games are really, really, really new - is that AFL title from Melbourne Australia?. You might try the gaming forums too . . . and one last thing: if you use a game device like a joystick or wheel, check their websites for drivers and patches] Last edited by GaryRouth; 09-21-2002 at 08:08 PM. |

OK, finally found a link to AFL Live 2003 troubleshooting:
http://www.acclaimau.com/afl2003/sup...chsupport.html Looks like it was developed right there in Victoria by IR Gurus and will be sold under the Acclaim brandname. That thing has only been out a few weeks. All the troubleshooters point to Direct X 8.1b.... as a necessary ingredient. On the link I just posted, your error is in article #3. Errors are a way of life with some games . . . Gary [p.s. ...if you use a "download manager" type of software, disable it while downloading your latest batch of Direct X 8.1b & drivers, such download managers are listed on Nvidias website as the source of corrupted files from time to time.... just download directly in one session to a local folder] Last edited by GaryRouth; 09-21-2002 at 08:30 PM. |
