When I am in a browser (Iexplorer or Netscape) my session hangs from 0 - 60 seconds after the mouse click. I keep my browsers updated to the latest versions and I have removed all programs with adware from my computer (using Ad-aware). When I check the startup folder only Norton is being started on bootup.
Do anyone know of a reason this would happen within win98. I have win2000 on my laptop and have had win98 on other work computers without this problem. This computer that has this problem is running DSL with a linksys router. This computer was built for me by a local PC shop. Any ideas? |

What kind of connection do you use? 56k? DSL? Cable? Wireless?

Hi Razz,
I stopped using NetScape since AOL took over, so can't say about that.... But, I have been having the same problem with IE. I just downloaded the new service pack last weekend, and it has been working a whole heck of a lot better! HTH TwoRails PS: and that's on my Win98.2 box with DSL |

hey Razz,
lately i've been experiencing the same problem. When i visit a website, the browser just freezes, theres a lot of HD trashing, and then everything is back to normal. I've also noticed that after the hd stop trashing some data is transmitted over the net (i notice it on my firewall). so it got me thinking that maybe it was some kind of virus/spyware. During one of these lockups i noticed that it was trying to download/upload to a website called Webconnect. I visited the site and it provides advertising/gathers information....possible spyware???? Even visiting pcmech, IE just blocked a cookie from that site. Anyone know if Webconnect is some kind of spyware??? am i on the right track?? |

Very interesting post, ftrguy. I just had to fix a friends computer that I built for him yesterday (Sat.). It lost all sound. One thing I notice right off was that WebConnect was installed. My friend did not install it, nor want it. Maybe I better tune-up his Firewall.
