Smile Phonecall Crashes PC While Offline?

Appreciate some assistance.

Has anyone heard of a phonecall crashing a computer while the PC is offline?

If so, what could cause this?
Any websites addressing this problem?

Thanks for your help.

The only time I've seen this happen, is when the "Wake on Ring" is activated on the motherboard, and the software can't handle it, or isn't completely installed.
Check your motherboard manual to turn it off, some are jumpers, some are through BIOS.

Thanks for the info, reboot.

Actually, this is not happening on my pc. Someone else is having a problem.

Had not heard of this before and was wondering how it could happen. Your suggestion makes sense.

Tahnks again.

FZWG, if I understand correctly, a phone call locks up the computer even when the computer is offline. Some of the Compaqs a few years ago, the 7032 for one, had that problem. There is a softpaq to cure that. It is softpaq SP8897, available at http://www.compaq.com/support/files/8501.html. There are hundreds of softpaqs listed on that page, just scroll down till you find it. The size of the softpaq is 4228K. It is a modified modem driver.

Thanks tiffany26.

Will pass on the info.

Don't know if the PC is a Compaq or not.

FZWG - one more note . . . the "Wake On Ring" setting that reboot mentions is usually located under the "Power Management" menu in the Bios Setup screens. (In case your friend isn't sure how to locate it) . . . of course, if the SoftPaq cures the problem, no looking around will be needed!

Thanks Gary.

Did not get any more info on the issue. Guess it blew away.

Have a good weekend.
