How to get recycle bin off desktop
Anyone know how to get that recycle bin shortcut off my desktop? it's the only icon I have and it is really bugging me. it knows I want no icons at all and it is mocking me. I'm running windows xp.

Hi Reedimus,
Right click somewhere on the desktop, choose Properties, go to the Desktop tab, click the Customize Desktop... button, and uncheck the Recycle Bin from the Desktop icons area. Hope that helps. |

The recycle bin is not part of that list you speak of. I am not sure how to get rid of it really ( i always liked ti there). Maybe move it to a different folder? I don't know, haven't tried it...
*edit* Nope, doesn't work. But you can put copies of it in your start menu and Quicklaunch bar. (and anywhere else i suppose). Then you don't have to use the desktop one. But really it is very handy on the desktop. I also use one in my quicklaunch bar. Last edited by DilLy; 09-21-2002 at 08:24 PM. |

Oops, my mistake. Here's how to remove it.
http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/7/ Also, I believe there's an option for it in TweakUI. |

Oh, cool
![]() Thanks, interesting. I still won;t delete it. I have heard that the Recycle bin isn't your typical icon or shortcut. Anyway, I think it is in a good spot there on the DT. Last edited by DilLy; 09-21-2002 at 08:27 PM. |

Just another FYI for those using the PRO version, you can choose to remove the recycle bin icon by using the group policy editor.
