Deleted Recycle Bin
I have deleted my recycle bin icon from my D: drive. How do I get it back?
Thanks |

My gawd! I didn't even think that was possible. How did you do it? Perhaps the icon just slipped off or under the viewable screen area. If your sure the icon was deleted, try Microsofts Update site:

I think TweakUI has an option for rebuilding icons.

I did that once by placing a little too hard in the Registry. Later on I installed something that froze the system, with Windows giving the "have to reinstall Windows" error message. I did wind up doing a reinstall to get all working right...

Someone could post a copy of their empty recycle bin as an attachment. I'd do it, but mine is not the stardard windows recyle bin.

Try this:
Start/Settings/Control Panel/Display/Effects . . . and in the "Desktop Icons" window, scroll to the right & see if there are any for your Recycle Bin or not. Also look to see if the "hide icons when the Desktop is viewed as a webpage" box is checked or not. It might be there, but hidden. . . . but if you deleted the icon by removing its key and value from the Registry, you'll want to re-create them. If you haven't made many other changes lately, using the scanreg/restore command from DOS will offer to restore your Registry to a point prior to your Recycle Bins disappearing act. Hopefully you have a saved Registry from that time. Post back if none of this helps . . . Gary |

If all esle fails, boot into DOS and type: deltree c:\recycled, then reboot and windows should create an empty recycle bin.

Is a DOS command that deletes a folder and all its contents, including sub-folders.

If you download "tweakui" from www.cnet.com you can get that icon back and add more or delete more at your discretion. All tweakui does is that it gives a gui that does all the registry editing for you.
