Win 2000 problem in install

Friend of mine reformatted his hdd. Reason is he wants to switch to Win 2000 pro from Win Me.
He has two hdd connected to ata controller promise card.
His ide 1 has cd rom and ide 2 has burner.
In the bios he switched boot sequence so that computer would boot from cd rom first and it does.
Installation begins (7 secs or so) and a message pops up saying that win2k cannot locate hdd. His bios shows both drives being on pci ata controller card.
He turned around reformatted and installed win me without any problems.
Any ideas on why win2k won't recognise existing hdd on promise card?

Send a message via AIM to GSXdan
the hd that is going to have Win2k on may have to be on ide, not a controller card. i had somewhat of the same problem before, and connecting the hd to the ide slot made it work.

During the beginning of the setup he needs to load the drives for the promise card by hitting F6 when prompted.

Usually you boot from your W2K CD and press F6 after the "Press F6 if you need to install third party SCSI or RAID driver" message appears.

At the "Windows 2000" Setup window, you then press "S" to Specify an Additional Device.

You can then choose your Promise Controller from the list and press Enter.

The Setup screen will appear again saying "Setup will load support for the following mass storage devices" and list your Promise controller.

Pop your Promise floppy into the floppy drive and at the W2K setup screen press Enter.

Setup should load the Promise drivers and then continue with the W2K installation.
