Can anyone tell me how to turn off the "Found new hardware wizard"? I had to reinstall my printer and I used the cd that came with it originally. The printer works fine but everytime I boot up the box comes up telling me it found new hardware.
My printers driver wasn't compatible with XP (i'm using xp home edition) but I had trouble getting the printer to work with the driver on the windows site so I just downloaded the one from the printers web site. Back when I first did the windows upgrade I think someone on this site had a post about turning that thing off but I couldn't find it using the search. |

I, also, install my printer from files from the manufacturer's site. I just click cancel when the "new hardware" wizard pops up.
Usually comes up 2 or 3 times, then I don't see it again. |

Have you ran windows update, or checked for up-dates to the printer drivers?
I would check the manufacturers web-page for driver updates. If that doesn't work, I would look towards updates.com(ran by c-net, I think) and see if it finds anything related to the printer.\ Logan

Did you remove the printers and software from the failed installs?

Thanks for the responses...
Colonel Sanders, the windows update site does have a driver for my printer but when I try to use that one my printer will not work. As it is I have the new driver from the Epson web site that they say is compatible with winxp and the printer works fine.
So I really don't want to change the drivers. Tuf, I checked and there is only one printer on my computer. I checked the folders also for extra Epson file but only have the one set. Not important, yep the "found new hardware" goes away when I close it but I'm just tired of seeing it...and it also makes my boot up a bit longer since its the first thing that's running. Maybe around a year ago I saw somewhere on the net a post about getting rid of this box if the program it was telling you it found was already installed. It was something to the effect of going into something and clicking on a box that says, "let windows handle hardware or drivers or installations". And if you click no then you don't get messages from the windows wizard again. For instance if you right click on the "my computer icon" on the desktop...click on properties...and click on the "hardware tab" the first thing there is to add the Hardware wizard. I think I need to unadd him but I'm not sure where that option would be. I'll keep looking at the different sites and if I find it I will post it here. Thanks again

I had same problem with 98se finding a canon printer model that didn't exsist. I finally let windows install it. Just keep the right printer set as the default and ignore the one just installed.
