I have just perfored a repair installation of Windows XP Pro on my Scsi Hard disk after moving it from another system.
When i first plugged the drive into the new system (with a full XP Pro install on there from the old sys) it would not boot and gave INVALID BOOT DRIVE message, i took the advice of the forum and booted from the XP Pro CD and performed a repair install, it now boots to the windows desktop fine everytime. But only if i leave the XP Pro Cd rom in the drive ?!?! If i remove it and try to boot i get the same old, invalid boot disk message. Inserting the Win XP Pro cd rom and it boots fine again to my desktop. It seems to be only accessing the Cd fo a few seconds and then boots XP normally. Whats going on ? What do i do now to enable it to boot from the HD without needing the Cd. I was thinking along the lines of boot.ini, maybe some of the patch are wrong and are still pointing to CD rom .... When the drive was in the old system with XP on it, it worked just fine. Anyone help ? |

Does your BIOS check for IDE or HDD boot? What is the boot order set at?

No, i have removed any IDE drives form the system.
The boot order is floppy, CD ROM and then Scsi/ATA100. (this is the only option for scsi. |
