I tried opening IE and it closes real quick. I restarted and it continued. I started a 3rd time and it stopped closing. Welll now I got another problem, as I write this, I have no desktop, just a gray screen.
In the taskbar there's a folder with no title and when I click the gray desktop comes back. Please help

Hi LordofEchoSide,
What OS are you using? If WinXP, did you install SP-1? Did you update IE? What did you do to your system just prior to this happening? Did you update the video driver? Have you tried booting into Safe Mode? Have you scanned your system for viruses? Could you provide your system specs. Cricket

Hi LordofEchoSide,
Try running your computer with the case sides off and have a small table fan blowing onto the video card area. If the problem goes away, it's heat related and you'll have to improve the case cooling. Did you do a clean install of WinXP or did you upgrade over an existing OS? It's generally better to do a clean install of WinXP on a formatted hard drive. People have reported having lots of problems if they upgraded over an existing OS. Cricket

well I'm sure it's not the video card because I was using AIM and it's just as if the desktop crashed.
I did do a clean install |

Hi LordofEchoSide,
What background programs are running on your system? How are you connected to the internet? If you're using a NIC to connect with cable or DSL, is it a NetGear NIC? Cricket

I'm not sure I can list them all. Is there a way to?
I use a NIC card, I think it's Realtek. |

I think it was my video card now, earlier I restarted my computer and it wouldn't start. After a few more tries it started and I looked up the diagnostic codes and it said Video controller failed to initialize or respond.
