klez... comp won't boot into windows now?
hey all,
unfortunately i know just minute details on this PC, but apparently it was infected with the Klez, and after that would no longer boot into Windows. Safe mode worked, and a Klez removal tool was run.. but there's still no go on getting into full blown windows. has anyone heard of this happening before? ideas? thanks.. p |

klez has corrupted too many files, and the removal tool has probably removed them as well.
One easy fix, is to run SFC and allow it to restore all files needed. Another way is to reinstall Windows over top. |

SFC=System File Checker, just go to Start > Run > and type in SFC, click Open, OK...you'll figure it out.

thanks jim!
i saw the computer this weekend and its not well. ran sfc, and they ran the klez fix tool already from norton. it gets into safe mode just fine.. i ran MSconfig and disabled nearly everything in the startup, but still could not get into windows. my guess is that they should reinstall Win98.. any other ideas? is reinstalling windows (not reformatting) safe, or should the whole thing get wiped out? ~p |
