Norton Ghost NTFS error
I have had Norton Systemworks for a while and love the Ghost utility. The problem is now that I have built a new PC with XP installed instead of 98, when I try to image my disk, Ghost tells me "NTFS logfile has not been flushed Restart NT then try again". I don't know why Ghost thinks i have NT unless because it is basically the same kernel technology. How do you run Ghost with NTIL command-line switch? Can anybody help. I Want to clone my basic build and OS before I start installing any software.
Thanks!!! |

To run ghost with the ntil switch, just type: ghost -ntil

1. Copy ghost.exe to a diskett
2. Make a boot disk 3. load computer with boot disk, after computer loads with boot disk put the diskett that has the ghost exe Type: ghost -ntil |

You could still use the Ghost disk. Just boot it up, and when you get the error message, exit Ghost. Then start up ghost again by typing "ghost -ntil"

Hi brentconn,
Ghost doesn't save to NTFS partitions, so at least 1 partition will have to be FAT32. Ghost will create an image of a NTFS partition, but it needs a FAT32 partition to save the image to. Oh, you also need Ghost 2002 (or System Works 2002 with Ghost) in order to use it with WinXP. Prior versions won't work WinXP. Cricket

OK, can I convert one partition on my second HD back to FAT32?
There is no data on that partition because it was created for my OS backup. All partitions on second HD are NTFS. |

I guess I will convert the one partition back to FAT32, but I will lose administrative control on that partition because of FAT32 system. Oh well!

That's why I've quit Ghost for other backup utils. Symantec seems to think I'm stupid enough to buy a new version of their software everytime Microsoft changes something in their NT OSs

I was reading that version 2003 will have the ability to save ntfs partitions to ntfs... I might upgrade to that version.... But it does suck to have to upgrade so much....

Thanks for the input guys but I have decided that Norton is arrogant programming and I have decided not to use it. I agree with Xayd, when I asked for help on this from Symantec, their solution was to upgrade. May be I will try drive image or whatever.
