Unhappy Restore dual boot windows

i had dual boot computer with win2k/XP installed on two different hard drives 15gig/40gig. win2k on fat32 and winXP on NTFS.i installed SYSTEM COMMANDER to make my compiter multiboot, but it messed up with the computer so i uninstalled it. now i cannot access winXP and the contents of the hard drive which i could before from windows 2k. whenever i double click on (I drive) which is 40gig from win2k it asks me to format it. i can't, i have lots of data in that drive and whenever i try to boot XP an error comes up ROOT>\System32\hal.dll file missing.
can i restore back my computer ?
Please help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try putting your XP installation disk in your Cd drive and booting from that. Then try the "repair" option for the drive with the XP files.

Post back if this doesn't help
