Hi suenbob2,

That's odd. IE 5.5 is more of a beta for 6.0 than anything. It's not 5.0 code, and is a lot closer to 6.0 code than 5.0. If 5.5 works, then 6.0 with the SP 1 installed should be even better. Since you have no problem uninstalling 6.0, all I can think of is to reinstall 6.0 and SP 1.

TwoRails, thats a new one to me, because I had so many problems with ie6.0 that I went back to 5.5, just thought it was alot faster and much more stable, I even tried it 5 or 6 times. Ever since I tried Mozilla though I dont think that I will ever go back to using IE, no matter what version it is.

Ya, ssahl, I was surprised when I read that, too. I can't remember the details, but a lot changed from 5.0 to 5.5 that is roughly the same in 6.0. How plug-ins work, how java works, how X controls work, etc...

Hi Bob (& ssahl & TwoRails)

Did anything else change two weeks ago? (new hardware/software?) Have you scanned for viruses, spyware, and trojans?

What error messages exactly? Are you getting errors in any other programs, too? (If you haven't tried any other programs in a while, try them & see if they are getting errors too)

I'm surprised your having trouble with IE6, especially with the SP1 installed. I'm thinking that TwoRails suggestion of downloading and installing IE6 again, and then downloading and installing SP1 is a good one. Should get all the files where they need to be. One thing: if you are using a "download manager" type of software, disable it for visits to Windows Update or MS download sites. . . I've read that some download managers can be a source of corrupted files for downloads. Something to try, anyway.

Hi gary, i have not added any software or changed anything. After i downloaded the svervice pack is when everything really went wrong i couldnt go any where. you could see it was searching for sights going through .com .net .org. an it said it was unable to open webpage. i cant remember exactly what it said an it doesnt do it on 5.5. it does still come up with an error on the 1 webpage i go to. I will try an reinstall ie 6.0 an try that frist before i download service pack.If i get the same errors i will write down what they say. I know that would be helpful.
thanks bob

Hi suenbob2,

If you're having constant problems with one or two sites, post their URLs and see if we can open them...

Hi suenbob2,

It opened up in about 2 seconds on my box. It has IE 6.0.2800.1106 w/ SP 1 and 128 bit security installed.

I also tried it with NetScape 4.7x, and it opened just as quick.

Sorry.... kinda wish I could say it didn't work for me....

Hi two rails, when i open the link i sent you it opens fine. When i open it on my puter it is opened from my favorites! Could this be a problem? Still getting occassional errors. About 3 wks before problem happen i downloaded netscape an was trying it out. I asked in programs forum what they thought of it an it got slammed. I didnt notice much of a difference so i deleted it. If you open it fine then it must be something on my end correct?
thanks bob

Hi suenbob2,

Sounds like the Favorites link is bad. Delete it, and make a new one.

Occassional error could be the site.

Unfortunately, yes, if I can open it, but you can't, then it's on your end. That doesn't mean that it is necessarily you system (but sure could be) but you local ISP servers and systems. I've read articles on how different servers / setups have different problems with different pages.

Hopefully others will post if they have troubles or not. If not, you can try you ISP or their (the site's) webmaster.

HTH
