Applog Folder

I am running Win 98Se.
Before running defrag, I usually delete Applog folder. After completion and reboot, everything returns to normal.
Lately, I found that the " Applog "folder does not contain what it usually contains, the *.lgc files. Even after repetitive reboots the applog folder seems empty !!
Can anyone help me out to fix such problem?

Thanks in advance

Hi David721,

Why are you deleting the Applog folder anyway? The Applog is used by Defrag to keep track of your most often used programs and determines where the files are arranged on the hard drive during the Defrag process. By deleting the folder, you're defeating the purpose of the option to rearrange program files so your programs start faster.

Start up Defrag and click on Settings. Are the 2 options in the top box checked?

You also need the program TASKMON running as part of your startups.

Cricket, galaxian, thanks for your feedback...

Firstly, I read that scandisk and defrag would run smoother if applog folder is deleted. Yes, the 2 options on top box were checked ! Furthers, taskmon.exe is not missing on windows folder.

What else can I do to fix the missing contents in the applog folder?

Hi David721,

Are you having problems running Scandisk or Defrag now? If not, I wouldn't worry about it.

1. To see if Taskmon is running, Run Msconfig > Startup Tab
2. If there are no files in \Applog, Taskmon is NOT running
3. If you wish to use the feature of Defrag to Optimize the startup of your programs, Taskmon must be running in order to create/update the files in \Applog
4. The recommendation to delete all files in \Applog is ONLY if you have not run Defrag in a long time. In which case, it will spend a lot of time rearranging programs. So you delete all the files, defrag and then start doing regular defrags without deleting the \Applog files.

hi cricket and galaxian, I appreciate so much for your effort to help me fix my problem. Also , I am so impressed of your advices and invaluable information re. harddisk optimization.
For cricket: I do not have problem running defrag at the moment.
For Galaxian: I will check on the Taskmon to see if it is running.

Further bugs:
I recently found that part of the contents in the Detlog.txt file contains scrambled or unreadable codes. I have pasted for your review. Like Taskmon responsible for the creation of applog contents, I am interested to know which prog is related to the creation of Detlog.txt file. I am suspecting the lagging of my internet connection could be the reason of such culprits in the detlog.txt file.... Please advise..
