definately my ethernet but...
This one happened 3 times in the past week and is a little out of my league. During the boot process, my computer hangs a little too long while looking for the master boot record. After that it will go into a dos-look screen and prattle on about my on-board ethernet card ( a VIA 8233) and come up with the following lines:
RPL-ROM-ADR:0007 95A9 E54A RPL-ROM-IRQ:5 RPL-ROM-PIO 800RPL-ROM-FFC: (it starts counting from 1 upward) I re-installed the drivers after the 2nd occurance and it has done it again. I think this is related as well: occasionally when i'm online, my computer will suddenly reboot. Is this screen some kind of built-in diagnostic? if so, what could be the root of the problem? |

In your BIOS check the boot order. If it is something like Floppy (or CDROM) Hard Disk, Network or maybe the Boot from other sources is set to yes then I would suggest that your disk or controller is on its way out and that the system cannot boot from the disk and is therefore trying to boot from the network card. We have had this happen at work and sometimes a power off restart temporarily fixes the issue but ultimately all the systems that did this have had their disks replaced.
