What's the difference between XP Home and XP Pro?
Does XP Pro have additional progs/options that are not found in XP Home?

There are minor differences between the two, but nothing major. XP Pro is tailored more toward corporate users who log on to large networks and things like that. Xp Home does not allow users to sign into domains...so that's one difference. Other than that, they are not that much different. If your strictly a home user then go with XP Home as you won't really benefit from the $100 price difference in XP Pro. As for programs, I'm pretty sure that they both include the same basic apps.

Major differences.... XP Pro allows you do log into a domain and has multi CPU support.

So I guess I'll get XP Home then.
I don't think I'll need to log onto a domain or have muli-CPU support.

I think this question should be in the forum's FAQ.

Actually force_flow asked his question in the correct forum. It's an Windows XP question and this is a Windows/2000/NT/XP forum.

I think aym_7 was refering to it being in the Windows/2000/NT/XP FAQ that is at the top of the Windows/2000/NT/XP forum.

Well I was just in the Windows/2000/NT/XP FAQ forum and didn't see anything that pertained to force_flow's question. Besides, that forum is closed so he couldn't ask a question even if he wanted to.

The mods can add this thread to the FAQ if they deem it to be worthy of being informative.

I would recommend pro if you are in the IT field. You never know if you want to use it to help you study for a Microsoft Exam.

Some info on file sharing can be found here
Statica, may be you could also add the folder and file permissions info to the FAQ unless I have overlooked it. Sorry, I just seen that the file/folder permmisions info can be found in the link Michael provided. Last edited by lil Jimmie; 10-02-2002 at 03:34 PM. |

Well, I'll be: http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/pr...qs/default.asp
That's unfortunate for those of us with XP Home. |

Just 'cause I wanna be acedemic and poke my nose into this
...Another big difference is that Win XP Pro has a "built in" Terminal Services license (CAL). This allows you to log into a Terminal Server without having to buy a license. Same thing with Win 2K Pro vs. Windows ME. Pro versions are obviously tailored towards corporate network use. Even though you don't get a whole lot of features going to the Pro version, it's the underlying ability to use other network services that add to the cost. MS don't let ya do nuthin' fer free!
