Hpppt Message Box/Win98
During Win98 start up I am getting a message box that says "Hpppt" and then it says "This program has performed an illegal operation and will shut down". I know that it is my scanner and I have uninstalled the software, restarted the system in Safe Mode, removed all files from the hard drive that are related to the scanner. Restarted the system and reinstalled the software and it is still giving me the error message. The scanner does work....
I am willing to start from scratch and uninstall, reboot in Safe Mode, etc...and would be grateful for "fresh" assistance in doing so. Thanks. |

Hi elephantsfly,
Did you download the latest drivers from HP's site? Are you using USB? if so, then make sure you don't plug in the scanner until After you install the software. If all else fails, you can search the Registry for references to HPPPT to see what you find. Waiver: you edit the Registry at you own risk! Also, is it HPPPT or HPPPTA ?? I can't find any hpppt on my system, only hpppta. HTH TwoRails |

driver update
I did download the latest driver file from HP. I am using the Parallel but I didn't hook the scanner up until after I installed.
I contacted HP and they gave me a list of uninstall/install instructions that I followed "to a tee" twice. It didn't help. I thought that maybe they missed something in their instructions to me and was hoping for some "fresh" ideas from you guys and I do appreciate your suggestion. I am going to try to redownload the update file again. Maybe it was corrupt. Thanks. |

Hi elephantsfly,
With parallel, you do just the oposite and hook it up first (before booting up). TwoRails |
