How to CLEAR the entries in Start | RUN
Hi guys,
I currently run GPEDIT.MSC on some computers in our company for security purposes. What I want is to clear my entry on RUN so as not to know by users what command I use to enable then not to experiment or play with the settings. Could someone help me on how to clear the entries on this section. Thank you and have a good day Henry

This seems to work, right click on the taskbar> properties> start menu> customize> advanced> and hit the “clear list”. Note that this will clear the users recently used documents.

Try this in Regedit:
Open HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Explorer\ RunMRU\. Delete all of the values in this key (everything in the right pane, except for (Default)). Close the Registry Editor when finished. You'll probably have to refresh the Desktop or restart Windows for this change to take effect. |

As those entries are in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER they will be read in from your NTUSER.DAT file which is unique to you. There is no need for you to do anything as Windows2k maintains separate lists for separate users. If you want to check then create a new user and log in as them. You will find the list is empty.

The clear recently used documents works for me, but another thing to try is to use the group policy editor and go to “Users and Configuration” then to "Administrative Templates">“Startup Menu and Taskbar” and Enable the “do not keep history of recently opened documents”. If that don't work remove the "Run" from the start menu and access the group policy editor via a command prompt.

Tweak UI
How about Tweak UI? It's got plenty of paranoia settings like that if you're really security conscious and it's a lot less time-consuming than digging in the registry all the time.

TweakUI is a nice "little" utility, but the Group Policy Editor is a lot more powerful especially when it comes to locking down the desktops of the users and differs from the registry. If the users were using a "limited" account they could not run gpedit.msc to begin with.
