Boom DVD Ram drive

Not sure if this is a hardware or software issue. I have a box running WindowsXP with a gig of ram and a 900Mhz AMD duron processor on an Abit KT7A-Raid mobo. I have 2, 9gig SCSI drives in it, a 60gig IDE, a Philips CD burner and I recently re-added a 4.7gig DVD Ram drive. I took it out some time ago for testing in another workstation. Before when the DVD Ram drive was in the XP box I didn't have a problem with it. I use the software that came with the drive which is VOB with the latest update. Now here's where the problem comes in. On any other system I install this drive it gets recognized each and everytime I reboot by the bios, and whether or not I'm running the VOB software I have full fuctionality of the drive. But in the XP box even though I've moved it to the ata100 raid controller it still doesn't get recognized and when it does the computer acts strangely. By strangly I mean that for no apparent reason when I try to open "My Computer" it just hangs. I can however browse there with no probelms using Windows Explorer. If I try to close the window that's hung up it takes out explorer. I have gone in and told XP to run explorer in it's own space to try to minimize the damage. Anyone out there have or use a DVD ram drive?? Do you have similar type problems?

Thanks
Gene

Since you removed and then reinstalled the drive, it's possible that you may have a drive letter conflict. Try assigning the drive a letter well beyond any that your other drives would normally occupy. It might help.
