Access 97 question

Error:
"The Microsoft Jet database engine stopped the process because you and another user are attempting to change the same data at the same time."

I had the user try this on another PC with another account and he got the same error. Then since the program is saying that the file is being accessed by another individual we copied and paste it to his PC locally and the error remained.

This error occurs when the user exports the db from Access97 to Excel 97.

Help

Do you think the database is corrupted? He can view and edit it but gets that error when exporting.

Close the database and make sure nobody is using it. In the directory where the database is should be a file with the same name as the database but an .ldb extension. Delete it and try opening it again. The ldb file contains information on record locks, and if it is screwed up it may be causing the problems you are seeing.

Also, compact the database. That should also repair any fixable problems.

Deleting the LDB file can be difficult, I am hoping to have by the end of my typing the URL for an Access 97 ldb viewer applet that tells you who is using the database. Well at leastthe machine name.

If the person IS NOT in the database, but access says they are(illegal shutdown can do this) have them log back into the DB and then leave it. This will clear them from being considered IN the DB.

I have this problem all the time with a call center that uses a DB I designed, especially when I come in after hours to do maintainence.

Repairing and compacting the DB (open the DB and from the menu ->tools--> Database Utilities) might solve the problem also.

got it, here you go, good luck
