Speed boot-up/Shutdown in WinXP

I know of some tweak guides that are out there that help with this i.e. http://www.tweaktown.com but I can't help but wonder if that or others may have caused so many issues with my system lately.

What have any of you used to speed your boot process?

I do have bootvis but have not utilized it yet since my reinstall. Requesting reliable suggestions, so as not to go thru what I just went thru the past couple of days.

Thanks
drew

For a faster shutdown,

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control.
Click on the "Control" Folder.
Select "WaitToKillServiceTimeout"
Right click on it and select Modify.
Set it a value lower than 2000 (Mine is set to 200).

Excellent tip!
There are one or two sneaky programs that change that value to numbers in the high thousands, something they think is better. Anti-virus programs are usually the culprit, and I forget which one, but if installed, it sets that value to 4000, a full 40 second wait.

Be careful setting it too fast as any program that has to save files while closing will be axed while trying to do it's job.
