If I understand you correctly that is you want to format the entire drive and have one partition? If so then boot to the XP cd start the setup as a new install and delete all partitions then create one out of the full drive format and install. Or is this to be a non OS drive then use disk management to delete the partition and format the entire drive.

Hi CorruptedSanitY,

Go into BIOS and set the first boot device to the CD-ROM drive. Save and Exit. Place the WinXP CD in the CD-ROM drive and reboot the PC. The WinXP installer will start up and will bring you to the hard drive prep screen. Highlight the c: drive and hit Enter. Choose the NTFS file system and hit Enter again.

Hi CorruptedSanitY,

If this hard drive already has partitions on it, you may be able to remove the existing partitions with the WinXP CD. If not, you can use Delpart to remove the partitions and then follow up with the WinXP CD to format the whole hard drive as one single partition.

Yes, you have to remove the partitions first. If you just format the drive, it will run in each partition. The hard drive has to be partitioned before you format it (formatting the whole drive is actually formatting 1 big partition).

If you're trying to really wipe the hard drive clean, you may want to try a zero-fill utility from the hard drive manufacturer.

You will have to delete the partitions and create a new one in order to format the whole drive as a single partition and if you are reinstalling XP just boot to the CD as it can be done with the XP setup.

If you want to do it with something you are comfortable with, boot - up on a Win98 bootdisk an at the A Prompt type in FDISK and the select delete Partitions. Do this for each Partition and Logical drive. Restart the machine with the XP CD in the drive,, enter setup and select CD-Rom as the first boot device.
The Computer will then boot from the CD and take you into the Partiton/Format/File System type setup screen for XP.
