After much blissful time with XP home I'm all of a sudden having problems installing ANY software. I tried to install a download of the new "Hitman 2" demo and it freezes up during the install. Tried to reinstall my copy of Norton System works...again...freezes during install. today I bought Battlefield 1942 and it will not install. I get to the status bar and it says "windows is performing the requested operation" and the status bar is at 0% and it is stuck there. I left the room for a half hour, came back and it was still at 0%. Task manager says the program is 'running', so I'm stumped. Any ideas?

When I install something , I shut down ALL programs on my computer.so that they don't interfer. Don't know of that makes a diffrence but do it anyway. Turn on the programs after installation. Also in Power Options, I go there and set them to Never ,then set them back after installation. Turn OFF Screen Saver. O ! I ALWAYS go to System Restore and make a restore point so that I can go back if something messes up. That is Important.----O- Well - this may not help but good tips before installing a program-----works for me--------------Donald
