100% CPU Usage?

Lately, my PC is taking 100% computer usage when I try to play AVI files and switching from avi to another file. It freezes for like 2-3 minutes and then finally plays. What's up?

What kink of Pc do you have and how much memory are you currently using? Find out how much your motherboard can handle and upgrade to more ram. You can get memory for a dime a dozen these days. Go with a good brand like Kingston,or Crucial.

Is the CPU at 100% all the time or just when you try to play the AVI files?

Maybe I didn't make things clear, I have a AMD 750 Mhz, running on Win Xp and 128 ram. I don't need more ram because like a month ago, everything worked fine when I played avi files. Dunno what's wrong?

Are you playing the same avi file that you were playing before? It might be something to do with the codec. Or perhaps WMPs behavior towards a format windows doesnt like after an upgrade? Try reinstalling the codec drivers and see if that helps.

Yea, this had never happened before. I had the divx codec and dixv 3.11 codec. But now the dixv 3.11 doesn't want to install on XP. Any suggestions on where to get the lastest codecs? Where can I find the angel codec and others?

Have you tried the newest Divx codec, I think it will play Divx 3.11

Try the player listed on the site below. It is a pretty powerful player.
