CD-ROM Driver
I think I need a CD-ROM driver that might be lurking somewhere in my system. Right now when I startup in Win98, the following appears on the screen:
C:/>_ (blinking cursor) It's waiting for a command from me. I don't know what to say. How can I get it to look for and install the driver for the CD-ROM? Also, when I insert a CD, my CD-ROM light goes on, which would seem to indicate it's powered, so I'm guessing it's the driver. Thanks. |

Windows 98 automatically installs the CD-ROM drivers and no other drivers need to be installed. The fact that you are getting the C: Prompt indicates that you have a corrupted windows install and the computer cannot find the correct file to start windows. You may have to re-install Windows to correct this problem.
It is also possible that the problem is due to a virus infection which has corrupted the Windows installation. If you are using file sharing programs such as Kazaa this is quite possible. |
