What just happened?
Okay guys, I need to borrow your brain power for a sec because I just had a MAJOR brain fart!
![]() Here's the situation: I was goofin' with an old DOS game I have, trying to get it to work (I'm running Win95). While I was in DOS mode I noticed a couple of files named autoexec.wos and config.wos. My machine seems to come up with autoexec and config files from everywhere with extensions I've never heard of and usually they just went with some other game or program I don't use anymore and its fine to delete them. Well, not these two files. After deleting them, the thing would only boot into DOS mode. I couldn't get back into Windows. I got it to run in safe mode but by skipping the startup files the displayed looked nasty, to say the least. I tried, unsuccessfully, to use an old version of the UNDELETE file. No go. I had noticed when I deleted the files that they didn't have a dang thing in them because their size was shown as 0 (which is another reason I erased them in the first place). To get it to work, I had to go back and create a blank file with the same names as the two originals, rebooted, and all was peachy keen. What the heck can two "blank" files possibly have to do with what just happened?

Hi morriswindgate, thanks for the quick response!
Yep, that's what happened all right. I went through the step-by-step confirmation type of loading (can't think of the name....where it asks you if you want to load each line of your startup files). Anyway, I did see the line DOS=SINGLE in there but I didn't know for sure what it was for. It did seem suspicious though. But that's definitely what happened. Thanks again!
