You have an illegal copy of Windows, that's the problem: http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q326904

I'm sure there will be a hacked version of the SP eventually.

It's funnny how some post pertaining to illegal installation of software can stay open, but when I mentioned installing a Legal OEM version I own on my kids PC I got Slammed and almost banned form this site.

Funny thing is my copy was approved my Microsoft for installlation because I purchased two OEM versions. It was originally thought I was installing one copy on two machines. What is the sense to have rules if some people can break them and others can't.

This thread should be closed and any reference deleted.

The thread hasnt been closed because, all the moderators including me, who have been following the thread have felt that there isnt anything here to corroborate an illegal copy. Microsoft has acknowledged that sometimes SP mistakes, or that users like s0z3 might be a victim of piracy. Changing the XP serial number is now a valid procedure as per Microsoft's recent addition to the knowledgebase.

There isnt any information on here that is illegal, and this thread will continue to remain open and all references undeleted, until otherwise noted.

Thank you for your concern. If you wish to discuss this further, please feel free to contact any moderator.

Lol, very ironic how the serial number verification which is intended to prevent pirated copies from updating also prevents legal users from updating, that Microsoft is forced to publisise methods to bypass this piracy checkpoint.
