Boom rebooting after updates

After the last so called critical updates to Windows XP my system will reboot when I try to shut everything down. Everything shuts down as normal but at the end it will start to reboot.
Used system restore to get to a point before update and everything shuts down properly now. Has anyone else had this same problem and know of a solution so the updates can be applied. Thanks
