DSL 'tweaking' ???
I recently upgraded from my 56k, to ADSL.
Or, I guess it might just be called 'DSL'(?). My query is simple: I want to know if there are software programs, or specific settings, for 'tweaking' my download speed. These programs are available all over, for 56k modems, but I would like to know how to get the best performance out of my DSL modem/service. I presently have a utility suite by the name of 'System Mechanic', which has a 'NetBooster' (within the other array of tools & utilities), that supposedly configures it for optimum performance, however I'm not sure if I want a utility 'adjusting it automattically', when I'm not entirely sure what its doing. It offers 'manual' adjustments also, but...I'm not sure what the 'optimal' settings would be. Can anyone offer anything on optimizing DSL connections?? (RWIN, MTU, etc....) *I'm running a new Dell Demension 8200/WinXP-Home & and my IPS has provided me with an external 'Sprint' SP642R DSL Modem* Thanks in advance, for any and all replys...! Bruce |

You can play with the settings but it doubtful you'll see any increases in speed. I have yet t o see a speed boosting utility that does anything but tie up resources.
X-tech allows an easy way to change some settings and it's free. |
