When I open msconfig a box pops up first stating: Unable to synchronize the environment variables in the Windows Registry with the environment variables in the legacy files AUTOEXEC.BAT and/or CONFIG.SYS. I click on Ok (only option) and the msconfig window appears. I've never edited the registry as I haven't a clue what I'm doing concerning the registry. This message has been appearing for quite some time, I've been ignoring it though would like to get it reconciled if possible. I get the message even after reloading Windows.

Here's what I found:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q264214 Basically, it's one of two problems, according to this article: 1. A trailing space follows a statement in the Autoexec.bat file. 2. The Config.sys file contains a [MENU] entry for a multiple configuration. Check out the article for a fix, seems to be complete and concise. |

The easiest fix is to rename or delete autoexec.bat and config.sys, as Windows 9x/ME don't need either of those to run.
