When you say you have a Mapped drive, do you mean you shared out a folder?
You need to share the file/folder out on the desktop machine, give permissions and security access to it so your Laptop can have access to it. Are you talking Peer to Peer network? Depends on your OS as to what you need to do to see the shared file. If NT/2K/XP You need to add a username and login on the desktop for the laptop computer to have access to any files. Peer to Peer authenticates only with each machines local access list. |

No I mapped out a drive. Under my computer in XP it shows under "network drives" "My docs on Gregs Computer drive z". I am trying to view offline files so that when I change them on my laptop whether connected to the network or not that it will update the files (on my desktop) when I reconnect to the network.
I used to just copy all the "my doc" files from my desktop over to the laptop so I could take the files with me and also have a backup. I then read that I should map a drive for viewing offline files so that the files would sync when i reconnected. I went to XP help and typed in offline files and it told me to map a drive which i did but the laptop cant see the mapped drive. I have a laptop that i use for business and I keep a copy of all the files on my desktop. Since I use both computers I never do remember to send a copy of the changed file to the other computer therefore my docs are always different and I want them to match exactly. Its a peer to peer network running XP on both systems. Sorry the post is choppy. Thanks |
